Made of 100% Tempranillo and aged for three months in 1-3 year old American oak barrels, this is a great little Spanish red for lighter fare or for making delicious red Sangria. Aromas of red roses, red cherries, blackberry, spices and vanilla lead to smooth, dry yet juicy fruit flavors in the mouth. We have carried this wine for over 20 years, and it is always reliable and delicious. The grapes come from vineyards that are 2,700 ft. in elevation with clay-limestone soils which we found out are for all intensive purposes farmed in an organic manner. The winery does not seek organic certification because it would be too devastating to lose an entire crop for one tiny section of treatment.

This chewy, medium-bodied red offers hints of melted black licorice and smoke on the nose, which transition to flavors of baked black raspberry and cherry fruit on the palate, with bay leaf and eucalyptus notes and a firm finish. Drink now. 70,000 cases made, 40,000 cases imported.

All Tempranillo brought up in tank, the 2018 Protocolo Tinto is a juicy, lively red offering plenty of red and black berry-like fruit and peppery herbs as well as a medium-bodied, soft, juicy style on the palate. It would be a great barbecue wine.
