Robert Parker calls Climens, 'one of France's monumental sweet wines and a personal favorite. It combines great nobility with laser-like flavor precision. A tour de force in winemaking.' He considers it 'the most companionable with food, the most complex and the most compelling wine to drink in the Barsac/Sauternes region.' Climens is a First Growth Barsac producer planted to 100% Semillon with old vines averaging 40+ years. The wine is aged for 18-24 months in barrels with 30-50% new oak and the wine is neither fined nor filtered to extract the deepest concentration and fullest complexity.

Wine SpectatorLoads of honey, maple syrup, dried apricot and spice. Full-bodied, medium-sweet, with a refined, spicy character. Pretty wine. Masses of botrytis. This is refined and long, a racy wine compared with the power and muscle of so many others. Beauty among the beasts. Best after 2012.

James Suckling, March 31, 2006
