The history of Gagliole in Tuscany is rooted in a distant time, thousands of years ago. An ancient document held in the State Archives of Siena tells that these lands were donated in 994 AD as a fiefdom by the son of Berengario, king of the Lombards. An origin that tells of family, continuity, transition, and custody. What the Bär family (who are the current owners) calls their ‘Land of Dreams’ began as a retreat and home, and later, the wines grown here opened the door to a new chapter. Everything came to life in 1993, from a small plot of 3 hectares of vines and a dream – to become winemakers and produce their own wine. A marked beginning, guided by a passion for wines and the intuition that this place had a story to tell.
At Gagliole, twenty-two hectares of organically-farmed vineyards span three of the most suitable areas of Chianti Classico: Castellina in Chianti, the Conca d’Oro of Panzano in Chianti, and the historic area of Badia a Passignano. Different locations, united by a rare matrix – Pietraforte – a typical feature of the terrain. It is this ancient limestone and sandstone rock that gives consistency and character to Gagliole wines, shaping their tension, structure, and aromatic depth. A silent imprint is featured on every label, defining the character of the wine.
As the third generation of the Bär family, Lucas Bär brings a new perspective to Gagliole while remaining deeply connected to its roots. His focus lies in shaping the estate’s identity, communication and digital presence, bringing a contemporary perspective to the way Gagliole presents itself today. His aim is to carry the family’s vision forward while preserving the character, authenticity and values that have shaped Gagliole over generations
This beautiful red from Gagliole is made of 100% certified organic estate Sangiovese and fermented with indigenous yeasts. After pressing, it was aged for 16 months in barriques of french oak wood. Thereafter, the wine was bottled and refined for further 6 months before putting it on the market. Gagliole is well structured and balanced with dense, sweet tannins. It should be served at a temperature of 18° C. Best maturity for drinking: up to 4-6 years after release.

Made with organic Sangiovese grapes grown in Panzano on a mix of pietraforte soils and clay, the Gagliole 2021 Gagliole shows perfumed intensity with a combination of cherry, forest berry and wild violet or mountain flower. There is an earthy component that is very clean in nature and recalls garden soil with fresh organic matter. That note transforms into a pristine mineral note of crushed rock as the wine opens carefully in the glass. This IGT red offers a lot of character and is one of my favorite samples in this group of new releases from Gagliole. Production is 13,000 bottles.

The 2021 Gagliole is 100% Sangiovese from the estate's vineyards in Panzano's famed Conca d'Oro. Rich, powerful and explosive, the 2021 captures all the natural radiance of this sector in Chianti Classico. Sumptuous red cherry fruit, blood orange, spice, menthol and rose petal build as this luscious, racy Sangiovese shows off all it has to offer.

Seductive, refined and well composed, with aromas of cherries, cassis, dried herbs, stones and baking spices. It’s medium-bodied with fine tannins. Velvety texture with elegance and refinement. Highly seductive, with a caressing stream of berries and a lift of spices bringing vitality and energy in the long, flavorful finish. From organically grown grapes. Drink or hold.
