Crafted by winemaker Jules Taylor's winemaker husband, George Elworthy (hence the cheeky name:), Better Half wines are all accredited by the world-leading NZ Sustainable Winegrowers scheme, which requires them to minimize chemical inputs, water use and waste production. The wines are handled with minimal intervention in the winery and made with vegan-friendly methods.
George's delicious Pinot Noir was harvested 100% from Marlborough’s more sheltered, cooler Southern Valleys, the home of the best Pinot Noirs in Marlborough. The result is a bright and lively ruby red colored wine. This youthful and fruit-driven Pinot Noir shows dark cherry and cranberry aromas which gradually open to reveal subtle dried herb notes and hints of cocoa. With a palate full of vibrant bright fruit, this wine exhibits prune and dark cherry flavors combined with earthy, savory undertones. This Pinot Noir would be an ideal match with roast pork and fennel, grilled lamb and roast beets, pasta dishes with mushrooms, miso eggplant and noodles or cheese & charcuterie.

What a lovely & delicious value-priced Pinot Noir from New Zealand. The Better Half opens with pure-tasting red cherries and red rose petals in the nose, followed by ripe red fruits, more flowers and hints of minerals on a silky palate enhanced by gentle acidity perfectly integrated into the fruit. You can taste the balance of the vintage, and you cannot remotely beat the price here. A very elegant $25 Pinot.
