Stag's Leap Wine Cellars was founded in 1970, a time when the Napa Valley was undergoing a wine renaissance after the devastating effects of Prohibition. Although there had once been some 140 wineries in the valley, there were fewer than 20 by the mid-1960s. Then in 1976 at the famous Judgement of Paris, Stag's Leap 1973 S.L.V. Cabernet won the competition by besting top estates in Bordeaux including Chateau Mouton Rothschild and Chateau Haut-Brion. The legend and legacy of Stag's Leap Wine Cellars had begun.
Artemis is named after the Greek goddess of the hunt. It offers inviting aromas of red currant and cranberry mixed with hints of vanilla and dried herbs. On the palate, the wine has a soft entry with dried cherry, blackberry, currant and savory herb flavors. The wine has a medium-bodied mouthfeel with round, satin-like tannins. Enjoy this wine with grilled tri-tip, braised short ribs or pasta with wild mushrooms and prosciutto.
