Marilisa Allegrini strikes again! This quality-driven woman who originally hails from Veneto in northern Italy has found new lands in which to make wine. In 2001, driven by the desire to discover new horizons, Marilisa and her brother Walter decided to extend their winemaking experience beyond the borders of Valpolicella, landing in Bolgheri, a land of extraordinary beauty and potential. Thus was born Poggio al Tesoro, the result of their vision and passion.
Its vineyards, nestled in an exceptional location, give each wine a distinctive personality, reflecting the harmonious balance between tradition and innovation. Each label tells a story of excellence, rooted in a territory that knows how to inspire and surprise. Today, Poggio al Tesoro represents not only a company, but a dynamic and cohesive collective reality capable of transforming the company's vision into reality through work in the vineyards and in the cellar and capable of constantly evolving while remaining faithful to its roots.
"Walter, my brother, was a sui generis farmer. He was very attached to his land, Valpolicella, of which he knew everything, from the clods of the vineyards to the changing weather, up to the crayfish to catch with his hands. He also knew how to dream of new adventures, beyond known boundaries and horizons. Our adventure began in 2001 with the discovery of the Tuscan lands that we traveled far and wide in search of a fruitful investment, but which did not betray the spirit and tradition of winemakers with "their feet on the ground". He called it "Tuscan shopping", but there was nothing hedonistic about that shopping: we looked, we studied, we tried to understand and imagine the future. In the end, emotion won. The emotion had a name: Bolgheri. Walter had no hesitation: he was struck by the great names of wine who had stopped here, by the Viale dei Cipressi that he adored, by the proximity of the sea, by the profound diversity of the soils, by the good climate, he said, for red wines of "great character and elegance". We had finished searching. We had found the treasure, or rather Poggio al Tesoro."
Il Seggio by Poggio al Tesoro is made of Merlot 50%, Cabernet Sauvignon 20%, Cabernet Franc 20%, Petit Verdot 10%. The Seggio is the largest waterway in the Municipality of Castagneto Carducci. It originates from the metalliferous hills of Sassetta, an area already known at the time of the Etruscans, extremely rich in iron ore deposits underground. It crosses the entire Bolgheri territory and its alluvial debris enriches, with precious pebbles, the characteristic clayey soils, thus ensuring excellent soil drainage. This Bolgheri Rosso is produced with typical grape varieties in this area, harvested and vinified with care to ensure depth and concentration, but also great freshness and drinkability.

Bright and saturated, with black currant, black cherry, cedar and tobacco flavors, this red also leans toward the elegant side. A firmly built version, showing fine equilibrium and refined tannins on the extended finish. Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Best from 2026 through 2038. 12,583 cases made, 420 cases imported.

The entry-level Poggio al Tesoro 2021 Bolgheri Rosso Il Seggio opens to a dark, inky appearance and aromas that recall slate, pencil shaving, curry leaf, sweet blackberry and purple fruit. The blend is 50% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Cabernet Franc and 10% Petit Verdot. The wine is broad and rich with soft intensity. You'll want to drink it now with veal steaks. An ample 175,000 bottles were made.

A saturated red/purple color, the 2021 Il Seggio is 50% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Cabernet Franc, and the rest Petit Verdot 10%. Named after the Seggio River, it's lush and inviting with aromas of fresh black plums, wet asphalt, wildflowers, and sweet Mediterranean herbs. Full-bodied on the palate, with ripe tannins, its graphite notes come to the fore, with a persistent mineral-toned texture and notes of black tea leaf on the finish. Though its aromas are quite appealing and initially inviting, a more serious wine emerges as it unfolds in the glass and is deserving of cellaring. Drink 2025-2040.

The 2021 Bolgheri II Seggio is vibrant, deep and super-expressive. Lavender, mocha, spice, blueberry and crushed rocks are beautifully delineated in this mid-weight, pliant offering. The blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot works so well. The 2021 opens beautifully with air.

The nose opens with savory aromas of tar, top soil and pepper, then evolves into layers of ripe, sweet blackberries and dark chocolate. Currants accentuate the blackberry note on the palate, while more chocolate and earth provide balance before a unifying, mocha finish.
