Finca La Capilla was founded in 1998 as Bodegas Robeal by Juan Miñón, then in 2019, the esteemed Rioja winery Marqués de Cáceres took control of the winery. The estate has 160 acres of Tempranillo planted across the municipalities of Roa de Duero, Anguix, La Horra, and Fuentecén, along with the construction of a 2000-barrel winery in Roa de Duero, the hub of the Ribera del Duero denomination.
Bodegas Finca La Capilla now benefits from the extensive experience of the Forner family, developed through their Bordeaux Grand Cru Classé, their Rioja and Rueda wineries, and their presence in international markets. The project is further supported by the expertise of its winery professionals in Rioja, who have consistently demonstrated their ability to achieve dynamic excellence and international prestige.
Great variation of high-quality terrain, mainly old, poor soils of tertiary origin, with low levels of organic matter. Sandy texture, with very good aeration and high drainage. Predominantly clayey sands, alternating with chalky layers of whitish appearance that provide elegance and finesse, as well as sandy clays with great nutrient retaining capacity.
Manual harvesting is done in small batches per plot. The short distance to the winery allows the grapes to be casked swiftly, without these warming up and the must oxidizing. Slow full-grain alcoholic fermentation in small stainless steel tanks with indigenous yeast. Prolonged maceration, but without over-extraction. Malolactic fermentation in French oak barrels. All processes are by gravity carried out with the utmost care. The principal fruity aromas are maintained whilst endeavoring to preserve the great depth of colour, typical of the area. Aged 14 months in fine-grained French oak barrels, new and 1 year old barrels in equal parts then aged between 16 - 20 months before the date of release from the winery.
The 2020 Ribera del Duero is a deeply colored wine with a high robe, glyceric and unctuous in the glass. Intense nose, with sensations of fruity freshness wrapped in a very integrated wood that complements, without masking, the fullness of the Tinta del País varietal (aka Tempranillo) in Ribera del Duero. Fresh, lively and elegantly complex on the palate, with creamy nuances and fine toasted notes. Enveloping and dense tannins. Subtle and elegant. Balanced to drink now and with the capacity to age in bottle for several years.
LIMITED EDITION: 349 Barrels OENOLOGIST: Manuel Iribarnegaray

Beautiful, ripe and balanced, this reminds us of the great Ribera del Duero's of yesteryear : reds that were rich in flavor but still bright and fresh. To maintain freshness with this level of density and weight is a special skill that comes from generations' of experience and astute farming practices. Very smooth tannins and overall deliciousness here.
