With twenty hectares in one single plot in Fronsac, Château La Vieille Cure is one of the benchmark producers on the Right Bank of Bordeaux. The soil found in this site is heavy on limestone, imparting a remarkably fresh quality in the wines at this estate. The average of the vines are 40+ years old and are all hand harvested. Indigenous yeasts are used in the cellar and the wines are aged in barrique, with about 30% of the barrels new. Château La Vieille Cure Fronsac has the ability to age gracefully for decades and is a delicious textbook example of pristine Right Bank Bordeaux.
A blend of Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon, La Vieille Cure red from the Fronsac region translates into an aromatic complexity that is both fine and robust. The rather intense red fruit notes are enlivened by a subtle spicy touch. Its purple adornment and elegant roundness give it a certain sensitivity, while its solid structure, its chewiness, as well as its fleshy side, give it a powerful character.

The 2020 La Vieille Cure is fabulous. Rich and sumptuous in the glass, the 2020 offers up a heady mélange of black cherry, mocha, licorice, plum, incense and chocolate. There's gorgeous depth and texture here. The 2020 is a superb Vieille Cure.

Always a winner, I can't remember the last vintage of this cuvée that didn't put a smile on my face. The 2020 Château La Vieille Cure has lots of up-front cassis and black cherry fruits to go with complex floral, lead pencil, and green tobacco-like aromas and flavors. Medium to full-bodied, seamless, and elegant, it has the vintage's concentrated, pure style front and center. It will evolve for 10-12 years.

Deep purple-black in color, the 2020 La Vieille Cure storms out of the glass with powerful notions of plum preserves, blueberry pie and baker's chocolate, followed by suggestions of star anise, ground cloves and eucalyptus. The medium to full-bodied palate is jam-packed by rich, ripe black and blue fruits, backed up by firm, grainy tannins and plenty of freshness, finishing long and opulent. 91-93

This has a nice fresh edge to the mix of damson plum and bitter cherry coulis notes, while leather, tobacco and savory hints fill in the background. Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. Best from 2023 through 2033. 10,480 cases made, 1,000 cases imported.
