The domaine of Etienne Sauzet is made up of 26 acres, much of it in the heart of the finest premier cru vineyards of Puligny-Montrachet. The average age of the vines is 30-35 years. Gérard Boudot, owner and winemaker of Domaine Sauzet, is seeking maximum finesse and an individual expression of the terroir in his wines. Boudot, who married the granddaughter of the late Etienne Sauzet, runs the domaine and has modernized and improved the vinification, making Sauzet wines among the most sought-after white wines of Burgundy. The estate has been bottling 100% of its production since the early 1950's. Since 1975, the domaine has been selling the entirety of its production in bottle. The white wines of Puligny-Montrachet are some of the most famous and most widely acclaimed in the world. This is undoubtedly due to the local microclimates and the clay, siliceous sand and lime contents of the soil.

Here the nose is cool, pure and airy with aromas of citrus zest, white flower, fennel and pear nuances. The mouthfeel of the lilting and vibrant medium weight flavors is gorgeous and unusually fine for Sous le Puits while exuding evident minerality on the bone-dry, balanced and tautly wound finale. Excellent and worth considering.*Burghound Sweet Spot Outstanding!* 91-94

Pale lemon colour, with a fine boned elegance to the bouquet. There is enough muscle to the fruit, a good tensile backbone, not so much flesh, but the whole could be a mite riper than the Garenne. I slightly prefer this. Drink from 2027-2034. 91-93

The maiden 2022 Puligny-Montrachet Sous Le Puits 1er Cru comes from a new purchase of fruit from the top of the incline close to Blagny. The cool, fresh, malic bouquet opens nicely in the glass, well-defined with a touch of wet limestone. The palate is fresh and vibrant, with good depth, fine concentration and ample weight and tension on the flinty finish. This is very promising and will need a few months on in the bottle. 91-93

An elegant white, this delivers apple, lemon and spice flavors underscored by fresh acidity and a light touch of tannins on the finish, where an accent of salted butter lingers. Drink now through 2029. 85 cases imported.
