Le Potazzine Toscana Rosso Sangiovese 2022

We visited this wonderful family estate during the 2009 harvest and had the honor to taste wines with the family from both bottle and barrel. This is a very thoughtful, quality-driven estate balancing tradition with modern know-how and captures the true essence of Montalcino. The wines are made in very small quantities in a traditional style. Wines of Montalcino are wonderful to pair with roasted meats, pasta or risotto with truffles or Italian cheeses, salumi and olives. 

Owned by Gigliola Giannetti, who is now working with her daughters Sofia and Viola Gorelli, this tiny estate was named after a local bird, the Potazzine, also the nickname for these sisters, due to their constant 'chirping' to each other from the time they were babies. The Gorelli's first vintage under the Potazzine label was 1997. Today the family owns vineyards in both the north and the south, since each area imparts different positive qualities such as richness, balance, aromas, acidity, terroir components and structure. Dedicated to healthy vineyards, old vines, low yields and natural winemaking, only using wild yeasts in the winery, and the wines go through a long, natural fermentation of about 30 days. Potazzine uses for the aging of their wines, Slavonian oak of Garbellotto company, from 30 to 50 hectoliters.   

This is a new wine, and we are very excited to introduce it! Made of 100% pure Sangiovese from the estate, it shows a lovely ruby red color and light garnet nuances. On the nose a soft but at the same time persistent bouquet with a freshness given only by the aging in steel that combines perfectly with a complexity due to spontaneous natural fermentation with indigenous yeasts. Absolutely perfect for light pasta dishes, with cheeses and salumi, or even on its own for a Pinot Noir-style red with Italian soul.
