Caparzo Collector's Edition 'La Casa' Brunello di Montalcion 3 Vintage Vertical Six Pack with 2 bottles of each of the following vintages : 2000 / 2004 / 2011
Caparzo was listed by Wine Spectator as one of Brunello di Montalcino's 'Cream of the Crop' producers. The estate is comprised of 475 acres, with 125 total acres planted to vineyards on all 5 sides of the hill of Montalcino, the only estate with this benefit. This gives owner Elizabetta Gnudi Angelini, with her daughter and her famed winemaker Massimo Bracalente, access to all of the different terroirs of the appellation, from soil differences to unique microclimates to varying altitudes of vineyards. Serve with roasted meats, hearty pasta dishes, braised meats, rustic lamb courses and/or Italian cheeses and olives.
Caparzo’s Brunello di Montalcino DOCG Vigna La Casa is a true enological gem, first produced in the 1977 vintage. At the time little was known of terroir, and little attention was paid to the concept of zonation, which had only recently been introduced to Montalcino. In this case Caparzo was once again a pace setter, producing a “Single Vineyard” Brunello from one of the finest vineyards in the appellation. With Brunello di Montalcino La Casa, Caparzo also was one of the first wineries to introduce barriques to Montalcino, producing a wine with an exciting and elegant spirit. Vigna La Casa exhibits the fruit of a unique terroir, and expresses all of Caparzo’s passion and experience in producing excellent wines.
VINEYARD LA CASA: The 5-hectare (12.3553 acre ) La Casa Vineyard is located on the famed Montosoli Hill, at an elevation of 275 meters, and enjoys a south southeast exposure. The Montosoli Hill is not large, but its slightly greater elevation shields it from both mists and spring frosts, and yields grapes of incontrovertible quality. The terrain is shisty-clayey, of a sort locally known as Galestro, and is well-draining. The vineyard enjoys excellent sunshine, an important factor for this sector of the northern part of the Montalcino Appellation, which has lower average temperatures than other sectors.
The grapes are, of course, harvested by hand. Malolactic is spontaneous at a controlled temp, and aging in wood for at least 2 years, and in bottle at least 4 months before release. This wine ultimately has an aging capacity of more than 35 years. The 2000 / 2004 / 2011 vintages were all rated 90 points or more in Wine Spectator.
