BRUNELLO DI MONT SAN POLO 2021 750ML 2021

“The idea of an eco-sustainable winery is an idea that is not only consistent with current times, but inevitably projected towards the future. It is something more: the link between generations. " Owner of San Polo, Marilisa Allegrini
A lifelong ambassador of Allegrini wines, Marilisa Allegrini was the first Italian woman to appear on the cover of Wine Spectator and was recently named Cavaliere del Lavoro. She is the heroine of a unique story full of passion and foresight, dedication, and respect for the environment. A story that starts with the family business in Valpolicella - Veneto - and her arrival in Tuscany in 2001 to implement the ambitious production diversification project in the unique and multi-faceted terroir of Montalcino. San Polo is a proud representative of this project, with its organic vineyards, its certifications, its avant-garde cellar where sustainable architecture rules, and most importantly, with its forward-thinking philosophy. It is a captivating story, also intertwining the fate of Marilisa's daughters Carlotta and Caterina, who today, alongside their mother, continue this entrepreneurial project with the values, ethics, and same spirit of innovation and determination that was once founded on the family’s great passion for wine.
San Polo is a certified organic estate with high altitude vines. Their wine cellar was created with the desire to keep the passion that has been handed down for generations, but with an eye always looking towards the future. Inspired entirely by the principles of eco-sustainability and sustainable architecture, it completely blends in with the surrounding landscape

Deep and multifaceted, this red delivers cherry, blackberry, black currant and violet aromas and flavors. Shaded with wild herb and underbrush notes and backed by a solid structure. This is balanced and long, with plenty of fruit and savory elements on the extended aftertaste. Best from 2029 through 2048.

Plums, red berries, cherries and cedar on the nose. Medium- to full-bodied with fine, creamy, velvet tannins and a long and flavorful finish. A rich wine that shows energy and focus. From organically grown grapes. Needs two or three yeas to come together, but it’s already very juicy and savory. Try after 2028.

Savory, umami aromas of underbrush, damp earth and sage, like a forest stroll in late fall, with black cherries and plums on the nose. The palate pivots to sweet ripe cherries, strawberries and raspberries, with orange zest, salt and pepper adding nuance, before a hot, fiercely acidic finish. Lots of verve.

The organic San Polo 2021 Brunello di Montalcino, with 40,000 bottles created, opens to a generous and complete bouquet that highlights dark fruit, spice, blue flower, grilled herbs and a hint of freshly cracked white pepper. It shows a faithful expression of Sangiovese and the nuance of the vintage. Fermented in cement and aged for 30 months in oak casks, the wine gains clarity and precision without excessive oak influence. There is good power on the palate with ample momentum through the mid-palate, along with chalky tannins and a dry finish lifted by bright freshness. Fruit is sourced across the Vigneti San Polo with southeast and southwest exposures on limestone and clay soils.

Leaping from the glass, the 2021 Brunello Di Montalcino has a medium red/garnet hue and offers bright aromatics of pomegranate, candied orange, rhubarb, and dusty earth. The palate is medium-bodied, zesty, and refreshing, with a sanguine edge, finely coiled tannins, and a nervous, youthful energy that firms up through the finish. It should take some time to open and drink best over the next 10-12 years. Drink 2026-2038.
