“The idea of an eco-sustainable winery is an idea that is not only consistent with current times, but inevitably projected towards the future. It is something more: the link between generations. " Owner of San Polo, Marilisa Allegrini
A lifelong ambassador of Allegrini wines, Marilisa Allegrini was the first Italian woman to appear on the cover of Wine Spectator and was recently named Cavaliere del Lavoro. She is the heroine of a unique story full of passion and foresight, dedication, and respect for the environment. A story that starts with the family business in Valpolicella - Veneto - and her arrival in Tuscany in 2001 to implement the ambitious production diversification project in the unique and multi-faceted terroir of Montalcino. San Polo is a proud representative of this project, with its organic vineyards, its certifications, its avant-garde cellar where sustainable architecture rules, and most importantly, with its forward-thinking philosophy. It is a captivating story, also intertwining the fate of Marilisa's daughters Carlotta and Caterina, who today, alongside their mother, continue this entrepreneurial project with the values, ethics, and same spirit of innovation and determination that was once founded on the family’s great passion for wine.
San Polo is a certified organic estate with high altitude vines. Their wine cellar was created with the desire to keep the passion that has been handed down for generations, but with an eye always looking towards the future. Inspired entirely by the principles of eco-sustainability and sustainable architecture, it completely blends in with the surrounding landscape.
Rubio has a brilliant ruby red color with purple hues. Intensely fruity aromas, with notes of cherry, violet, and black currant, followed by spicy notes. Well-structured and balanced, with pleasant tannins and great aromatic persistence. The sensations of berries and cherries, typical of the variety, give it great drinkability, in addition to considerable intensity and elegance.
This wine expresses all the radiance and directness of a Sangiovese from Montalcino counting on freshness; it is perfect by the glass, thanks to its versatility, and ideal for outdoor barbecues. Delicious when paired with various kinds of cured meats, pasta, sausages and grilled meats, medium-aged cheeses such as the famous Tuscan sheep pecorino or Spain's sheep Manchego. Excellent immediately, although it does not fear brief cellar aging.
