For the last 140 years, Maison Joseph Drouhin has been in the hands of the Drouhin family. Today, the fourth generation is at the helm, motivated by the same passion that inspired the founder of the company. Producing close to 90 different appellations, Joseph Drouhin offers a fascinating array of Burgundy terroirs in all their authenticity and subtle variations, accentuated by their farming and growing practices. Joseph Drouhin has adopted the organic and biodynamic approach. Only natural products are used in the vineyards and all procedures show the utmost respect for the soil, the vine and the environment.
The style of Joseph Drouhin is an alliance between character, balance and harmony. Wines meant to be drunk young are fresh and subtle; wines meant for keeping acquire with age a luscious complexity. The wines of Joseph Drouhin are found on the finest tables and wine lists in the world. This Bourgogne rouge is a wine full of charm and delicious layers of red fruits like raspberry, red currants and wild strawberry. On the palate, the wine is so charming and energetic with smooth tannins and the Drouhin's signature elegance.
As a Chablis specialist, the Drouhin family intimately knows Chablis, perhaps more than any others. Les Clos is a great and noble white wine, that clearly expresses the terroir of Chablis. The color is pale gold yellow, with greenish hints. Refined nose, with aromas of lily (« fleur de lys »), honey or preserved lemon. Astounding depth and velvety sensation (gras) on the palate, with some delicate marine nuances. Intense and long aftertaste. After 5 or 6 years, even more complex and subtle aromas develop in the wine. A wine of incomparable finesse.

The 2023 Chablis Les Clos Grand Cru underwent partial fermentation in grès (sandstone) eggs that have more porosity, plus 500-liter barrels. This has an attractive nose with hints of yellow flowers, white peach and tangerine, much more expressive than the previous vintage. Taut and crisp, the palate is well balanced with fine definition and a touch of white pepper. There is good weight on the finish. This is a Les Clos that is worth hunting down. (Drink between 2026-2044) 92-94

The 2023 Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos has turned out very nicely, revealing aromas of sweet orchard fruit, white flowers, freshly baked bread and wet stones, followed by a full-bodied, ample and satiny palate with a deep core of fruit and chalky grip on the finish.

Three plots with old vines, made in 500 litre barrels and an earthenware egg. Lemon and lime. A more classic Chablis nose, with slightly more energy and less soft, the fruit with a little fresh apricot increasing at the back of the palate, a light toastiness, just needing a little more of the white limestone feel to be a quintessential Clos. 90-92
