Blue Run “Reflection I” Kentucky Straight Bourbon is a small-batch bourbon from Castle & Key Distillery by master distiller Jim Rutledge, formerly of Four Roses, in 2018. Just 200 carefully selected barrels were chosen for this bottling, each toasted to a #3 or #4 char and aged in Frankfort and Bardstown, KY. “Reflection I” is bottled at 95 proof.
“’Reflection I’ is going to appeal to both the whiskey novice and the seasoned veteran,” said Mike Montgomery, CEO and cofounder of Blue Run Spirits. “This release blends barrels with medium to deep char levels allowing us to marry some very intriguing flavor differences. It is a full-flavored sipper that truly demonstrates Jim Rutledge’s finely honed skills as a distiller.”
Bright Rainier cherries, apricots and creamy butterscotch on the nose. Fluffy pancakes and maple syrup on the front end, rosemary and red berries on the mid-palate with an invigorating nutmeg and marzipan finish.

This one taps into older barrels than those used for Reflection I. Sweet and gentle on the nose, with buttered pancakes, maple syrup, and raspberry preserves, balanced by subtle dried herbs. The mouthfeel is smooth, with pleasant spice and light notes of cooked berries, cinnamon, and flavorful integrated oak. It's a bit hot —ice is a good fit. The finish is mid-length and creamy. A bright, fun, easygoing, flavorful, and smooth sipper.
