Winemaker Vincent Bouzereau Emonin handcrafts this Meursault from clay and limestone (calcaire) soils just as the generations did before him. The Jehan Emonin label is the ancestral label of the Domaine Vincent Bouzereau. The Jehan Emonin label was chosen to honor Vincent’s Grandfather (Jehan Emonin). The Bouzereau family settled in Meursault in the 16th century. Vincent represents the 10th generation of vignerons in his family. The estate owns 10 hectares of vines spread out in the Cote de Beaune from Puligny-Montrachet in the south to Aloxe-Corton in the north. The majority of the parcels are located around the village of Meursault. The estate uses sustainable farming to encourage microbial life. The vines are Guyot pruned and the aim is not to manage yield by hectoliter per hectare but rather limit the number of shoots and bunches per stock to have a good air-flow in the canopy. Disbudding is the carried out as well. Grapes are picked by hand only when phenolic maturity has-been achieved. The wine-making is traditional, using only indigenous yeast. The aging of white wines goes from 12 to 18 months. The use of new oak is conservative here with the village and Premier Cru wines aged in only 25%-30% new oak, and no more than 50% on Grand Cru. These are wines of pure class and balance.
Sourced from 10 parcels; 100% barrel fermented and aged, 25% new oak, this serious bottle of white Burgundy is rich and multi-layered. Vincent Bouzereau produces this Meursault from 15 parcels, some of which are 1er Cru status. As with all his wines, there are no added enzymes or cultured yeasts and there is no warming of the cellar to induce malolactic fermentation. While there are hints of sweet vanilla and light toast, it is the mineral intensity that dominates. Smoke, almond and calcaire evident through the mid-palate. After time, flavors of crunchy lime and red apple come through, adding complexity and impressive length to this taut and youthful wine. The lively structure will allow this to drink well through 2028 and maybe beyond.
