Domaine Labruyère, founded almost 200 years ago, is strongly attached to traditional values - family, hard work and respect of Nature . Located in the Moulin-à-Vent appellation, in 1850, Jean-Marie Labruyère, wine grower, settled in les Thorins, a hamlet of Romanèche-Thorins. He acquired 25 acres of well-located vineyards. Since then, several generations of Labruyère have been running the estate and have acquired the famous 'Clos du Moulin-à-Vent', unique Monopole of the appellation. Located right by the iconic windmill, this is one of the most precious jewels of Domaine Labruyère.
We had the supreme pleasure of meeting Édouard Labruyère in early 2022 at a special Burgundy tasting in NYC. He is such a passionate, quality-driven person who honors the history of his family and continues to strive for improvements and success at all of his family's estates. Labruyère in Moulin was their first domaine, and the place where they hail from. His great-great-great grandfather in fact was instrumental in creating the Moulin-à-Vent appellation. With all of this said, Édouard was also exceptionally kind, charming and fun to be around! We are so happy to make his acquaintance and look forward to supporting his family's wines including Château Rouget in Pomerol which we have carried for 35+ years...
In 2008, Edouard took over the responsibility of the estate convinced that all of the family's plots are located on the best terroirs of the region. He invigorated Domaine Labruyère with a new dynamic, and cemented it at the top quality of the Beaujolais region. The winery also practices sustainable and organic farming in order to pass on healthy soils and vineyards to future generations, which also makes the wines even more complex and indicative of the regions soils and terroirs.
Very interested by the individuality of each terroir, Domaine Labruyère has established a vineyard designated approach, as practiced in Burgundy. This led to three specific cuvees : Champ de Cour, Le Carquelin and Le Clos, unique Monopole of the appellation, as well as a new cuvée, Coeur de Terroirs, a selection of great terroirs of Domaine Labruyère, predominantly originated from granite soils rich in quartz, with vines averaging 50 years. Grapes are harvested manually in 15 kg crates before passing on a double sorting table and then 100% destemmed. The fermentation takes place in concrete vats, in order to isolate each plot and to express the unique characteristics of our terroirs. The entire system is thermo-regulated. The wine is aged for 12 months in oak barrels and in 600-litre barrels, called "demi-muids", and then in concrete vats for 6 more months. Slight filtration and no fining. This wine will age for 5-15 years depending on the vintage.

The density of this wine is impressive. It brings out generous black fruits and a structure that, while cushioned by the richness, are very ageworthy. The wine's future is assured. Drink from 2025.

This lovely, elegant, delicious red has a ruby color with purple tints. Purple flower notes are perfumed and laced with mint leaves, leading to licorice and spice notes on both the nose and in the mouth. The perfectly ripe red raspberry, pomegranate, blueberry and plum flavors are just so tantalizing. The elegant structure, fleshy fruit and embracing tannins are all in balance and the finish is rich and velvety. This is such a beauty.

The 2019 Moulin-à-Vent Coeur de Terroirs, from 50-year-old vines, is matured in barrels and demi-muids. It has a very lifted, quite floral bouquet of red cherries mixed with raspberry pastilles and a touch of vanilla pod. The palate is ripe and quite concentrated on the entry. Quite a bold and assertive Moulin-à-Vent with a slightly heady finish.
