Saperavi 2021
- bot92
Made by a woman winemaker in the Kvareli, Kakheti region of Eastern Georgia, Anemotion Saperavi is the ideal introduction to dry red wine from this part of the world. The area has been producing wine for over 8,000 years, and today is experiencing an exciting period with young, talented wine growers and winemakers wanting to show their quality wines to the world.
The most widely planted grape of the country, the Saperavi grape is native to Georgia, and found throughout Russia and surprisingly in the Finger Lakes of New York as well. Medium-large dark blue berries produce deep reds known for aging. This hardy grape is known to handle extreme cold weather and fares well in high altitudes.
'Anna fermented this Left Bank Saperavi on 100% skins in qvevri; after fermentation, the wine was in qvevri for a grand total of 6 months. The bouquest is wonderfully pure and expressive. Medium-bodied, graceful and very well balanced on the palate, the silky tannins wrap around a core of dark forest berries, whiffs of stone, all leading to an appetizing finish.' 91 points Lisa Granik MW August 2, 2021

Fresh and youthful, smooth, round and pure, this dry red is made with ancient methods of aging in clay pots. Ripe red and black fruits, violets and licorice abound. This is pretty, soft and charming, it will undoubtedly please many palates, especially lovers of Pinot Noir, Sangiovese, Grenache, Beaujolais and Cabernet Franc.
