RoseRock is the Oregon passion project of the Drouhin family, of Domaine Drouhin Oregon and Maison Joseph Drouhin fame. The winemaking roots of this family date back to 1880 in the Burgundy region of France. A century later, Maison Joseph Drouhin ventured out of Beaune with the establishment of Domaine Drouhin Oregon, in the Willamette Valley’s Dundee Hills. Today, the Drouhin family’s commitment to exploring and expressing the terroirs of Oregon has blossomed at RoseRock in the Eola-Amity Hills AVA. Sustainable agriculture advocate Philippe Drouhin continues the family's history as RoseRock's Vineyard Manager along with his sister, winemaker Véronique Boss-Drouhin, a graduate in oenology whose post-graduate work focused on Pinot Noir.

RoseRock 'Zéphirine' is a blend of the finest barrels of RoseRock Pinot Noir, named for the fragrant 'Zéphirine Drouhin' variety of thornless climbing rose, introduced in 1868. Fittingly, the dark-ruby Zéphirine Pinot Noir has an intoxicating perfume, of roses, violets, strawberries, and cacao. The complexity and finesse of this lyrical wine will reward cellar age, although it drinks deliciously upon release.

The 2018 Zéphirine adeptly conveys the beauty of its name and the special qualities of its place. On the nose, it opens with a lovely perfume of spring blossoms, rose petals, and a touch of pomegranate. A striking, savory palate offers notes of fig, plum, roasted mushrooms, and a hint of allspice with black pepper. Bright and exciting from start to finish, the balanced tannic core leads to a lovely finish full of character and structure. The intense mouthfeel suggests that the 2018 Zéphirine will age beautifully for the next 15 to 20 plus years.

Very intense violets and fresh wild cherries, blueberries and a spicy, bracken-like note with a stony edge, too. The palate shows the clarity of tannin that is the hallmark of great pinot noir – super fresh, well-defined and fine yet powerful – carrying cherry flavors long and fresh. Drink or hold.

The 2018 Pinot Noir Zéphirine has layered aromas, with a pretty juxtaposition of tobacco leaves and dried flowers accenting a core of sweet rhubarb, raspberry and blueberry fruit. The medium-bodied palate is silky and elegant, offering loads of earth and spice-laced fruits and a long, uplifted and juicy finish.
