Proeza Dão 2019

The wines of the DÃO region in Portugal are made from high elevation vineyards in a climate of hot days and cool nights, historically producing tannic reds with plenty of acidity. We found this Proeza (from the Barão de Vilar company) to perfectly balance the traditional style of the region with a lovely smoothness to the tannins and integrated acidity. Look for dark cherry, blueberry, mocha, spice and dusty earth notes. Made of Touriga Nacional, Alfrocheiro and Tinta Roriz grown in sandy and granitic soils. Fermentation takes place with skin maceration for 5 days. After malo-lactic fermentation, the wine is aged for 6 months in used French oak barrels.
