The Prisoner Wine Company’s eponymous first wine was inspired by the wines made of 'mixed blacks' by the Italian immigrants who originally settled in Napa Valley. Since its inception, The Prisoner has been considered a savvy Napa Valley company, leading the resurgence of California red blends and earning 'cult wine' status. The Prisoner Wine Company’s winemaking philosophy remains the same: to collaborate with a family of growers throughout California’s best winegrowing regions to craft wines of exceptional quality and unexpected character. The bigger they become, the more grapes they buy. In fact, the Prisoner Wine Company buys grapes from more than 100 vineyards throughout California’s grape-growing regions, partnering with growers dedicated to cultivating unique varieties. Chrissy Wittmann and her team of winemakers collaborate with the growers, visiting each vineyard site throughout the year to assess the style and quality at each site so they can blend it all and make good wine in every vintage.
Look for aromas of black cherry and ripe plum layered with vanilla and baking spice. Concentrated dark fruit flavors culminate in a lush, full mouthfeel and a lengthy finish. A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, Malbec, Petite Sirah and Charbono.
