The domaine of Etienne Sauzet is made up of 26 acres, much of it in the heart of the finest premier cru vineyards of Puligny-Montrachet. The average age of the vines is 30-35 years. Gérard Boudot, owner and winemaker of Domaine Sauzet, is seeking maximum finesse and an individual expression of the terroir in his wines. Boudot, who married the granddaughter of the late Etienne Sauzet, runs the domaine and has modernized and improved the vinification, making Sauzet wines among the most sought-after white wines of Burgundy. The estate has been bottling 100% of its production since the early 1950's. Since 1975, the domaine has been selling the entirety of its production in bottle. The white wines of Puligny-Montrachet are some of the most famous and most widely acclaimed in the world. This is undoubtedly due to the local microclimates and the clay, siliceous sand and lime contents of the soil.
Toasted bread on the nose - yeasty. Very much an example of the vintage with the lemon/lime minerality and an oily, powerful texture. The acids build up and are carried to the finish with a smoky earthiness. Long, long flavors with tremendous purity.

The 2022 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Champ Canet is excellent, mingling aromas of lemon oil, citrus confit, white flowers, freshly baked bread and mandarin, followed by a medium to full-bodied, satiny and seamless palate that's concentrated and structured, concluding with a long, nutmeg-inflected finish. 92-94

Smooth and creamy, evoking peach, pear, butterscotch and hazelnut aromas and flavors. Supported by vivid acidity that leaves a piquant feel on the briny, reverberating finish. Shows excellent balance and expression. Drink now through 2032. 65 cases imported.

The 2022 Puligny-Montrachet Champ Canet 1er Cru felt much more closed when I tasted it at the Domaine, introverted with dewy meadow scents. The palate is well-balanced, but it doesn't quite convey the mineralité and tension of its fellow Premier Crus at the moment. Does it have more to give? I remain cautious for now. 90-92
