Category | White Wine |
Brand | Paul Pernot |
Origin | France, Burgundy, Côte d'Or |
The wines from the Pernot family in Puligny-Montrachet are well-known throughout the world for classic Puligny-Montrachet and Bâtard-Montrachet style. They have rich concentration and fruit, but more importantly, good acidity that allow them to age gracefully and harmoniously. This beautiful little Bourgogne Blanc is from a vineyard site located in the lower part of Puligny-Montrachet and has a higher classification of Bourgogne Côte d'Or. Made from hand-picked grapes that were fermented with native yeasts and then aged in older barrels. Pure elegance on the palate, which is Paul Pernot's signature.
Domaine Paul Pernot boasts a vigneron family tradition dating back about 200 years. Although Paul Pernot founded the domaine in 1959, the family had been growing and making wine long before that—mostly for the Drouhin family. Now the third generation of 'Paul's' has learned the classic, careful farming and winemaking that makes this domaine such a success. Based in Puligny-Montrachet, the Pernots touch some of the best Chardonnay vines on earth. But the care used on their high end wines extends all the way down through to their Bourgogne Blanc (still largely Puligny making this wine a TRUE 'baby Puligny'). As a general rule, the Pernots employ a very transparent winemaking style, designed to highlight the purity of fruit, and its natural expression, yet respecting the traditional, impeccable style of Burgundy. The Pernots use well-made French oak barrels, a small percentage of which are new, a little batonnage, and light filtration and fining, bottling just prior to the next year’s harvest—all the methods that have come to come to be traditional in Burgundy, but all in moderation, with a good sense of what the fruit requires.

We are thrilled to welcome back this pristine Bourgogne Blanc, with an elevated 'Côte d'Or' designation that is well deserved both by law and by taste. Clean, perfectly ripe melon and citrus fruit with snappy youthful acidity and a touch of softening oak round out this pure and lovely white Burgundy. Made from de-classified Puligny fruit, this is a little superstar.
