Barone Cornacchia Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Riserva 'Vizzarro' Colline Teramane 2018

From their beginnings over 400 years ago, Baron Filippo Cornacchia was a pioneer in wine production in the Abruzzo region of Italy. The family succeeded in creating a high-quality product with a strong identity, and today is still owned and managed by the same Cornacchia family. Then and now, everything is grown and picked by hand, working “from dawn till dusk”, to create singular wines that taste like they hail from Abruzzo. The estate is also Certified Organic, even further adding to their wines' complexities and richness.   

This wine, 'Vizzarro' Montepulciano Riserva is the flagship red of the estate. From the esteemed, and only DOCG of Abruzzo called Colline Teramane (meaning the Hills of Teramo) , this wine is dedicated to the current generation's great-grandfather, Baron Filippo Vizzarro Cornacchia. The family’s modern-day passion for viticulture began with him. This DOCG wine was first created at the end of the 1990s and represented the culmination of the hard work and commitment of a group of producers that promoted this area of Abruzzo, succeeding in achieving recognition. The name Vizzarro or Bizzarro (B and V are often used interchangeably in historical texts) is a name that ran through the family from 1488 in the generations of Alessandro Vizzarro Cornacchia, son of Giovanni, owner of the family fiefs Poggio Varano, Casanova, Ripa di Santa Maria a Bolignano, Quatrelle and Santa Croce, and up to 1870 with Filippo Vizzarro Cornacchia.
