Vigneti a Prua is a small, family owned & operated, organic wine producer in Liguria, Italy, that uses regenerative farming practices to improve the health of its vineyards and the environment. Prua's vineyards are located on terraced limestone cliffs overlooking the Ligurian Sea. From his tiny vineyards in Albenga, Filippo Ruffino takes care of his vines by hand and in all seasons. The family uses organic farming practices including increasing biodiversity, rebuilding the soil's organic matter and capturing carbon in the soil.
This white is made of 100% Pigato from Rivera Ligure di Ponente. The vineyards are composed of 6 hectares owned by the Ruffino family located on the Riviera Ligure Ponente or the coast of the setting sun. The terrain is reddish, aluminium-rich, calcareous clay which gives a special minerality and richness to the wine. The vineyards are between 150-300 meters above sea level. The vines are around 20 years old. Sea breezes aerate the vines and cool them during the night which enhances the aromatics. The harvest is done 100% by hand in late September/ early October.
Brilliant straw colored with emerald reflections. Inviting bouquet filled white peaches and honey, herbal notes such as wild fennel. Rich and polished with a bright acidity and a complex minerality. There are citrus peels and peaches along with a touch of the sea and fresh herbs. The finish is long & fresh and with a touch of bitter almond. Excellent with shellfish, fish, appetizers and light pasta dishes.
Pigato is also known for its aging potential. The nose will develop round, enticing aromas of dried stone fruits, hazelnuts, lemon curd and salty brine. The palate becomes more textured, crunchy with a velvety mouthfeel. You can still serve Pigato with seafood, but as it ages, it is wonderful with roasted chicken, buttery, creamy pasta dishes, veal scaloppini and hard aged cheeses.
