Domaine Dujac Vosne Romanee Aux Malconsorts 2019

The 2019 Vosne-Romanée Aux Malconsorts 1er Cru has a more savory bouquet than the Les Beaux Monts, the whole bunch less integrated by direct comparison and yet it also delivers more terroir expression and mineralité. Touches of cracked black pepper and sage lend complexity to the dark berry fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, a fine bead of acidity, very harmonious with white pepper and clove, a lovely grainy texture and perhaps more refinement compared to the Echézeaux. The kind of Vosne-Romanée that you want to elope with. 95-97

This spectacular holding of 1.57ha has been in the family since 2005 and never fails to impress. One portion of the vineyard actually extends into Les Gaudichots, better known today as La Tâche. After a mostly whole cluster fermentation and some time in cask, the 2019 delivers intensely ripe blackberry fruit, with hints of spice and smoke, plus a dense texture that showcases firm but supple tannins and a savoury, saline finish. This superb wine goes from strength to strength.

Aromas of cherries, raspberries, exotic spices, anise and blood orange introduce the 2019 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Aux Malconsorts, a full-bodied, rich and muscular wine that's concentrated and primary, underpinned by lively acids and an imposing chassis of rich, powdery tannins. Even in the charming 2019 vintage, a decade's patience will be a minimum requirement for this Malconsorts. Best after 2029.

(Domaine Dujac Vosne-Romanée "Les Malconsorts" 1er Cru Red) An overtly spicy nose reflects notes of various red and dark berries, rose petal and exotic Asian-style tea. The mouthfeel of the broad-shouldered flavors is sleek with an almost silky mid-palate that contrasts markedly with the muscular and notably firm finale that displays focused power on the dusty, youthfully austere and serious finale.
