Rated 95 Points and Ranked #13 in Spectator’s Top 100 of 2024. Fattoria di Fèlsina has long been one of the great names in Tuscany. Based in the Chianti Classico region, Fèlsina produces one of the finest ranges of ageworthy and complex Chianti wines. Unlike many of their neighbors, Fèlsina has never succumbed to the temptation to produce “new age” wines from their fine Chianti vineyards, and continues to grow solely Sangiovese here, rather than dabble with international-styled blends that include Cabernet Sauvignon or Merlot. Consequently, their elegant yet intensely flavored Chiantis place them firmly among the top handful of Chianti producers, with the best vintages of their top Riserva Chiantis often approaching Brunello di Montalcino in terms of complexity and potential for longevity.
Ruby red appearance with rich, intense tones. Spicy nose with floral notes and hints of wild berry (red and black), accompanied by mineral impressions and light toasted notes. Spice re-appears on the palate, which displays firm but supple tannins, and the finale is vigorous and taut. Overall, the wine is compelling for its flavor-rich mid-palate and supporting acidity.

"Ripe dark-skinned fruit, juniper berry, iris and French oak aromas propel out of the glass on the radiant 2021 Chianti Classico Riserva from Felsina. Elegant and showing wonderful intensity, the palate features succulent Marasca cherry, cassis, star anise and oak-driven sensations alongside firm, fine-grained tannins. Bright acidity keeps it balanced..."

The core of cherry, pomegranate and raspberry fruit is detailed with Tuscan scrub, iron, vanilla and tobacco notes as this intense red builds in power to the expansive conclusion, where its fruit, mineral and wild herb flavors converge. Shows fine balance and length; this just needs time to absorb the oak. Best from 2027 through 2043. 5,000 cases made, 2,000 cases imported.

The 2021 Chianti Classico Riserva shows the pedigree of this important vintage in its complex, multi-faceted personality. A wine of nuance and layers, the 2021 has so much to offer. Black cherry, leather, spice, tobacco, menthol, licorice and game are all amplified in this super-classic Riserva from Fèlsina.

The nose is defined by the tartness of dried cherries, dried cranberries, hibiscus, blood orange and wild strawberries. Strawberries and raspberries headline a sweeter palate, but a fresh salinity provides balance, and sturdy tannins structure a hot finish.
