La Réserve Saint Dominique Vacqueyras is grown on a plain red clay soil rich in pebbles. The maturing is done during 15 to 18 months in concrete vats. The Vacqueyras wines are powerful and full of character yet with distinctive freshness and finesse, and that can be witnessed in the wine below.
Vacqueyras is the AOC in the Southern Rhone, located between the prestigious vineyards of Gigondas to the North and Beaumes de Venise to the South, Chateauneuf du Pape being further South-West. It is a Cru Village since 1990.
The name “Vacqueyras” means “Valley of the rocks” in Latin. Vacqueyras is one of three cru appellations which shares the slopes of the Dentelles de Montmirail, the other two being Gigondas and Beaumes de Venise. Many of the finest vineyard sites here are on the steep, southwest-facing limestone slopes just to the east of the town. The terroir of Vacqueyras is a good inbetween between the cooler, more elevated and more exposed to the winds Gigondas (making more refined and powerful wines), and the lower, warmer Beaumes de Venise making richer, bolder wines. The wine below is a typical Southern Rhône blend with Grenache for fruitiness and generosity, Syrah for spiciness and structure, Cinsault for suppleness and lightness.

Pretty berry fruits, violets, candied orange, and some peppery notes all emerge from the 2022 Vacqueyras, a medium to full-bodied, round, nicely textured and up-front barrel sample. It's going to offer pleasure right out of the gate yet should have upwards of a decade of overall longevity. 90-92
