Alión comes from carefully selected terroirs located in the very best areas of the Ribera del Duero DO region. The soils complement each other, and allied with the same winemaking process used in Vega Sicilia, they have produced wines with a firm structure. The 2018 vintage reflects weather influenced by the Atlantic, with higher than average precipitation, cool temperatures, and a relatively late harvest, between 28 September and 12 October. The new oak on this vintage was increased by up to 80 %, with American oak representing 10%, targeting a more generous wine. 2018 was a fresh, Atlantic-influenced vintage, giving this Alión a more vertical, longer, and elegant expression.
Since its acquisition by the Álvares family in 1982, Vega Sicilia has continued to grow and establish its international reputation. Today, a constant search for excellence, a symbiotic harmony with nature, rigor and dedication make this Spanish estate a prestigious reference. Over the years, other wineries like Pintia have embraced and enhanced the philosophy of Vega Sicilia. Thus, the extreme care provided both in the vineyards and throughout the winemaking process leads to the production of fine Spanish wines from the most unique lands.
Spread over 130 hectares, 70 of which are situated on the estate, Alión by Vega Sicilia is made from a meticulous selection of the most exceptional vineyards in the Ribera del Duero appellation. The soils of this terroir benefit from the influence of the nearby river, colluvium and the wind. The vines are 38 years old on average and are planted on clay-limestone soils whose perfect water regulation favors an early ripening of the grapes.

The more accessible entry from Ribera del Duero icon Vega Sicilia, this wine has aromas of blackberry preserves, Turkish delight and clove. It fills the mouth with flavors of cherry pie, plum pudding, dark chocolate, violet talc and licorice wrapped in opulent tannins that recede into a citrus-zest and floral finish.

A harmonious red, with a core of ripe black plum and cassis fruit layered with fine, creamy tannins. Medium- to full-bodied and plush on the palate, offering pretty violet, dried thyme and mocha accents and an underpinning of loamy earth, which linger on the sculpted finish. Best from 2023 through 2033. 21,483 cases made, 978 cases imported.
