The family of Livio Sassetti has produced wine in Montalcino for over three generations. The Podere Pertimali and its 16 hectares of vineyards are located in the Montosoli area, north of Montalcino, a particularly well-known area for the cultivation of the Sangiovese. Faithful to the teachings of his family, Livio has over time renewed and expanded the vineyards, preserving the genetic heritage of the old vines and preserving the primigenie characteristics. In 1967, Livio was among the founders of the Consorzio del Brunello di Montalcino and in 1968 he built a terracotta wall in his cellar to preserve the old vintages of the wines produced by the family, the company’s historical memory. Today, the collection consists of almost 1000 bottles, including one that could be termed ‘the great-granddaughter’ of current productions, a bottle dated 1915. In 1999 the Sassetti family acquired a company in Maremma, La Querciolina, within the Montecucco DOC. Thanks to the great passion and experience, vineyards abandoned are transformed into vineyards capable of producing Sangiovese and Ciliegiolo of the highest quality.
The wines of Livio and Lorenzo Sassetti, of the Pertimali Company, are considered among the largest in Montalcino. The excellence in the productions of Brunello and Rosso is the result of the absolute dedication of the Sassetti family, for its land and its fruits and the good location of its vineyards, on Montosoli hill, north of Montalcino with south-east exposure, area partucularly suitable for the production of wines with extreme complexity and elegance, thanks to a terroir whose pedological characteristics allow the perfect balance between the wealth and the power typical of the southern area of Montalcino and the finesse of the north.

Blood and iron mark the aromas of this powerful red, with ripe flavors of plum, black cherry and fruitcake. Very long, fresh and balanced, with the dense, dusty tannins softening and integrating with a few hours aeration. Best from 2025 through 2047. 1,250 cases made, 325 cases imported.

The 2015 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva struts its old-school stylings with a beguiling display of musky cherry and strawberry offset by damp earth tones, hints of cedar and mint. It's unbelievably soft and silky in texture, ushering in ripe red berry fruits laced in saline-minerals and savory spice, with building inner florals toward the close. Formidable structure awaits on the finish, yet the 2015 Riserva manages to maintain freshness, coming across as both structured for the long haul but also with enough primary appeal to warrant checking in on today. It's gorgeous. Tasted over the course of two days with consistent results. Drinking Window: 2024-2034.
