A stunning expression of California in a complex Bordeaux blend, this wine is composed of 40% Malbec, 34% Merlot, 14% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot from all hillside vineyards which helps to keep berry size down and concentration strong. The sites are south and southeast facing for the early ripening varietals with clay loam soils. Aged 18 months in 45% New Oak, 60 gallon French Oak Barrels. The tannins are well integrated and the texture elegant and silky, making this a wine that is drinking beautifully now and will continue to reward with cellaring.
The folks behind Aperture believe that wine is an artistic expression as personal and universal as photography. So it only makes sense that father & son, Andy and Jesse Katz would finally find a way to work together to produce stunning wines from California. Andy Katz made his name as one of the greatest photographers of his generation, and his work graces coffee-table books, galleries, and album covers around the globe. While he was traveling the world for his art, he made a point of bringing along his son, Jesse, to experience it all with him. Over the years, they both benefited from an international wine education that even master sommeliers would envy— sipping wine with Olivier Leflaive and his family, working through the famous wine cellar of Cheval Blanc in Bordeaux and in a late-night tasting at Sassicaia were a few of the amazing wine experiences father and son had together.
It has all come full circle now with Aperture: Jesse makes critically acclaimed wine——and Andy supplies the photos. Andy’s vision, Jesse’s taste, smell, and touch… this is a 'dance of the senses' created by two gifted artists.

The 2020 Bordeaux Red Blend is composed of 33% Cabernet Sauvignon, 28% Malbec, 28% Merlot and 11% Cabernet Franc, matured in 45% new French oak for 18 months. Medium to deep ruby-purple in color, it is scented of blueberries and red and black cherries with nuances of graphite, spice and tea leaves, continuing to blossom aromatically as it spends time in the glass. The medium-bodied palate is velvety and refreshing with alluringly floral fruit and a long, layered finish. Restrained and easy to drink, it's a great success in a challenging vintage. 2,189 cases were made.
