Purchased 1993 by Gérard Perse, the owner of Châteaux Pavie, Pavie-Decesse and Bellevue-Mondotte, Monbousquet was actually the 1st winery purchased by the quality-driven Perse. He began with major renovations, for example, the entire 32 hectare vineyard was drained to limit a rise in the water table during prolonged wet spells followed by a complete rebuild of the winemaking facilities and an entirely new aging cellar.
The vineyard is planted to 70% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon. The vine density is 5,500 vines per hectare and average vine age is 40 years. The terroir is composed of sand, clay and gravel. The yields are kept very low to increase concentration and improve quality.
Vinification takes place in small, temperature controlled stainless steel vats and French oak tanks. Malolactic fermentation in barrel. Aged in 60% new French oak barrels for 20 months. 6,000 cases are produced annually.

Unique aromas of cherries, ash and grilled meat. Full body with juicy tannins and round texture. Delicious finish. Very soft and approachable. Hard not to drink now. Better in 2024.

90-92. Barrel Sample. The second wine of this Château is made by the same team as Château Pavie. It is concentrated while keeping a fine sense of crisp fruit, with gently structured tannins to lend support.

From the stellar team at Château Pavie, the 2016 Angélique de Monbousquet is a sexy, medium to full-bodied, incredibly delicious Saint-Emilion that boasts a huge nose of blackcurrants, chocolate, tobacco leaf, and graphite. It has outstanding purity, ripe tannins, and is one seriously good mouthful of wine. Drink it over the coming decade.

The 2016 Angelique de Monbousquet is deep garnet-purple colored and features bold scents of crushed blackberries, warm plums and raspberry pie with hints of dried herbs, underbrush and tobacco. Medium to full-bodied, the palate reveals loads of minerally sparks interspersed with the vibrant red and black fruit layers, finishing pleasantly chewy.
