The Potensac estate has belonged to the same family for centuries and has always been transmitted by women. Thus the current owner Jean-Hubert DELON takes it from his paternal grandmother, Georgette Liquard. Although close to the river, Potensac is located on a high point of the North-Médoc. The site has been populated for a very long time, the name Médoc comes from the Roman "medio aquae" which means "in the middle of the waters". Planted in the commune of Ordonnac, the vineyard now reaches 60 hectares on a terroir where the typicality of each grape is clearly expressed, and gives the wine a formidable capacity for aging.
The vineyard of Château Potensac mainly extends on limestone mounds covered with argilograver rumps with a high proportion of gravel. These limestones are very close to those that can be found on the appellation Saint-Estèphe. On this unique terroir, there are plots of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc planted more than 80 years ago and producing a perfectly ripe and healthy grape. The first edition of The Féret over 200 years ago even mentioned the hamlet of Potensac for the distinctiveness and longevity of its wines. Le Féret is the book that defined Bordeaux and set the standard for all wine guides to come.

Lovely cherry paste and cassis flavors are fresh and open, backed by light plum pit and chalk notes that impart focus on the finish. Nicely done. Score range: 88-91

This ripe wine offers structure from the Cabernet in the blend but also rich berry fruits with just a hint of chocolate. Its density and acidity give a smooth as well as juicy aftertaste.

Blended of 44% Merlot, 39% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot, the medium to deep garnet-purple colored 2016 Potensac features chocolate box & Sichuan pepper scents with a core of cassis, warm blackberries, kirsch, and menthol. Medium to full-bodied, it has a great core of expressive black fruits, grainy tannins and lovely freshness, finishing with a red fruit lift.
