Origin | France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune |
From one of our absolute favorite domaines in Burgundy, the wines at Comte Armand are made from organic/biodynamic vines, 100% de-stemmed with whole-grape fermentation, 20-30% new oak; the reds are unfined, unfiltered and the whites are fined and lightly filtered. This is from the premier cru vineyard of Fremiets in Volnay, an appellation Comte Armand is known for, in addition to its most illustrious Pommard wines. Winemaker Paul Zinetti is very talented and has respected the deeply rooted, complex vines at this estate.

This is aromatically similar to the Volnay villages while being notably spicier. The markedly finer medium weight flavors possess excellent punch and evident minerality while delivering impressive persistence on the seductively textured finale. This too is lovely and worth considering. 90-93

Notes of red cherries, licorice and rose petals mingle with nuances of raw cocoa and loamy soil, introducing Come Armand's old-vine 2018 Volnay 1er Cru Frémiets, a medium to full-bodied, deep and layered wine that displays superb concentration and admirable energy. This will be well worth seeking out. 91-93

The 2018 Volnay Les Fremiets ler Cru is very expressive on the nose with loamy notes filtering through the layers of black and red fruit. I find superb minerality here, the aromatics seem to "expand" with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, very lithe and velvety smooth. Moderate depth towards the finish, this has a lovely salinity that maintains freshness all the way through. Excellent.
