Côte-Rôtie "La Turque" is one of the flagship wines of the Domaine GUIGAL. A powerful wine with spicy notes, its terroirs from côte brune with “blond accents” lends it a great elegance. The soils consist of silicone limestone with schistes producing clay soil rich in iron oxyde, planted to 93 % Syrah, 7% Viogner with vines averaging 25 years. The wine is ultimated aged for 42 months in new oak.
Eye: Deep ruby red with dark tints. Nose: Small red fruit, blackberry, morello cherry Intensely aromatic, powerful and elegant. Palate: Supple attack with a balanced supple structure, concentration and elegant tannins. Fully expressive of the terroir. Overall: With all the virility of the Côte Brune, La Turque also has all the subtlety and femininity of the Côte Blonde.
The prestigious Guigal domain was founded in 1946 by Etienne Guigal in the ancient village of Ampuis, home of the wines of the Côte-Rôtie. In these vineyards of over 2400 years old you can still see the small terraced walls characteristic of the Roman period. Etienne Guigal arrived in this region in 1923 at the age of 14. He made wine for over 67 vintages and, today, winemaker Philippe Guigal is the third generation to continue the family tradition of producing the greatest wines of the Rhône Valley.

Now that it's in bottle, the 2014 Cote Rotie La Turque has exceeded all of my earlier expectations. It's got those classic Côte Rôtie elements on the nose of smoked bacon, olives and violets, seamlessly entwined with supple tannins and raspberry fruit. Medium to full-bodied, it's silky and fine, showing tremendous length and complexity on the finish. On this occasion, La Turque came to the head of the class as the most approachable, exciting and elegant of the three La Las.

Very dark, lush and alluring, this lets waves of Turkish coffee, warm ganache, melted black licorice, fig and plum sauce roll through while a light mesquite frame melds nicely along the edges. A tug of earth at the end keeps this grounded while the fruit pumps along. Best from 2021 through 2042. 90 cases imported.
