Calazul Albariño Rias Baixas 2019
This lovely thirst quenching classic 100% Albariño white is from the best area, Rias Baixas in Galicia, for this unique Spanish grape. The soils are 50% granitic, 25% clay and 25% sandy, and all the grapes are picked by hand and then de-stemmed before winemaking. Bodegas Rectoral do Umia has done a terrific job here. For folks who like Sauvignon Blanc or even cleaner Chardonnay, Albariño is a great option and interesting for pairing with foods, even lightly spicy dishes.
Look for intense fruit flavors highlighting pear, apple and peach. On the palate it shows an integrated acidity throughout, and very balanced. The freshness of apples and pears is balanced by the smoothness of stone fruit, which gives the whole great harmony, releasing crisp sensations and finishing fresh and clean.
