Beringer Cabernet Sauvignon Private Reserve 2015
Truly historic and crucial in the lifeline of California grape growing and wine making over the last 100+ years, the Beringer winery was founded in 1876 by a German immigrant named Jacob Beringer. The fledgling estate continued to grow and prosper into the turn of the century, and even succeeded during Prohibition, under a federal license allowing the family to produce wine for religious purposes; then in the 1930's, Beringer was the first winery to offer public tours, sparking wine tourism in Napa Valley. The 1970's and '80's were a golden era for collectible, extraordinary Cabernets and Chardonnays at Beringer, and in 1990, Beringer Cabernet 1986 was the #1 Wine of the Year in Wine Spectator.
Fast forward to 2015, and founder Jacob Beringer's great, great grandson Mark Beringer 'came home' to Beringer as Chief Winemaker, while 20+ year winemaker Laurie Hook transitioned to Beringer's Winemaker Emeritus. To call this winery EPIC is an understatement. This is their most collectible and famous wine.

Wine AdvocateContaining the tiniest splashes of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, the 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Private Reserve has a deep garnet-purple color and nose of plum preserves, baked blackberries and cassis with hints of menthol, sandalwood and chocolate box. Full-bodied with soft, seductive tannins and a lively backbone supporting the generous, ripe, opulent fruit, it has a decadent spiciness and great length.
Wine SpectatorBeautifully proportioned for the long haul, this is deep, complex, firm, focused and structured, showing tiers of savory herb, dark berry, cedar and sage flavors, ending with ripe, chewy tannins.
