750ml Bottle

This Barbaresco from the famed Basarin vineyard tastes rich, supple, well balanced, intense, and persistent. We love the 2015 vintage for its immediate charm and fully ripe nature.  100% Nebbiolo from less than one hectare in Basarin. The 15-year-old vines grow at 250 meters above sea level with full southern exposure. Fermentation-maceration occurs in stainless steel for 10 to 15 days. The wine is then racked into three-hectoliter Allier casks for 2 years. Approximately 333 cases produced annually.

The Voghera family have been farmers in Neive in Barbaresco for many generations. They grew grapes for a modest production of family wine, but also cultivated grain and fruit trees. The estate as we know it today was born in 1974, when Luigi Voghera, the father of the current owner, dedicated his farm entirely to the production of grapes and started to vinify and bottle his own production. Luigi’s son Livio adheres to his father’s old-school and time-tested methods of production: longer maceration on the skins, and aging in large oak cask. We were consistently impressed by Livio’s offerings—all estate bottled, and across the board tremendous values.

Wine SpectatorExpressive and juicy, offering cherry, plum, black currant and licorice flavors. Tobacco, eucalyptus and mineral elements add depth, while the aftertaste lingers. Shows terrific harmony and refinement. Best from 2022 through 2040.
