SKU 05295

750ml Bottle

This cuvée is made from a 1.25 hectare plot (3.09 acres) of 100% Pinot Noir and vines
averaging 50 years. The terroir consists of multiple parcels in the middle of Volnay that border 1er Crus (including Mitans), all facing southeast and all with clay-limestone soils.  The farming is certified organic (Ecocert) and biodynamic (Demeter).  Vinified for 2 weeks in tank with indigenous yeast fermentation. Aged for 18 months in barrel (7% new), one racking. This wine has a stylish bouquet of cherries, violets, cocoa powder and blood orange leading into a pure, silky palate with lovely transparency and energy. A generous core of fruit enrobes fine tannins.

VinousThe 2017 Volnay Vendange Sélectionée comes from vines that lie just below the line of Premier Crus. It has a bright bouquet with wild strawberry, red cherries and a faint, almost ash-like scent. It is very well defined. The palate is quite fleshy and rounded on the entry, finely judged in terms of acidity, with a slightly "crunchiness" to the texture on the finish, just a dab of white pepper on the aftertaste. Probably one of the most overlooked of Lafarge's Volnays - I suggest you don't.

Wine AdvocateThe 2017 Volnay Vendanges Sélectionées is showing well, wafting from the glass with notes of cassis, red berries, raw cocoa and orange rind. On the palate, it's medium-bodied, deep and nicely concentrated, with more depth and dimension than the domaine's regular Volnay, framed by chalkier tannins that will reward bottle age and concluding with a sappy finish.
