Vasse Felix Estate Cabernet Sauvignon 2015
This benchmark Australian wine expresses the distinct regional profile of Margaret River Cabernet Sauvignon and the site characteristics it takes from the Vasse Felix vineyards, with a focus on Wilyabrup. It was the first red wine produced in Margaret River and has been made every year since 1972. Cabernet is a robust variety ideally suited to Margaret River's climate and deep, well drained soils.
Established in 1967 by wine pioneer Dr. Tom Cullity, Vasse Felix is Margaret River's founding wine estate. Pristine isolation, ancient lands and twin oceans make Margaret River a wine paradise and one of the world’s greatest environments to grow ultra-premium Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay. These varieties, alongside Shiraz and Semillon Sauvignon Blanc blends are the primary focus at Vasse Felix. We have known for years that Cabernet thrives in the Margaret River, producing a more refined style than her counterparts in warmer regions of Australia such as Barossa. The cooling marine influence has alot to do with it, and Vasse Felix has always been an elegant, beautiful example.
All the wines at the estate are grown in Vasse Felix’s four Margaret River vineyards then vinified and bottled within the modern winery, situated at the Home Vineyard overlooking the Wilyabrup Brook. There are many things that make Vasse Felix the special place it is: the incredible environment and climate of Margaret River, their secure family ownership, their treasured heritage, and their priceless vineyards. But above all, it's the dedication of the entire team to continue Dr. Cullity's original aim for Vasse Felix: "to make the best possible wine".
Look for complex, savory aromas embedded with black fruits, red berries, cranberry, wood, soy, peanut husk and cacao. The savory fragrance gives way to fruit cake notes, with orange peel, red flower and concentrated blackcurrant combining to form an alluring bouquet. A plump entrance and fruity core lead to building fine, ripe tannins. A line of fresh red-berry tang, reminiscent of dried cranberry and blackcurrant flavors, is followed by notes of dry sweet biscuit, chocolate, iron and spicy oak.
