Belle Pente Willamette Valley Pinot Noir 2016
Belle Pente (bell-pont'), which means 'beautiful slope', is a 70 acre hillside vineyard and winery in Oregon's Willamette Valley. Inspired by the wines of Burgundy and Alsace, and following the same guiding principle that great wine is made in the vineyard, Belle Pente is located on a historic 1840s farmstead two miles east of the town of Carlton in the Yamhill-Carlton American Viticultural Area. The first vineyard was planted in 1994, and now includes over 16 acres of Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, and Chardonnay. The estate vineyard is supplemented with high quality fruit from independent Yamhill County vineyards. The 3-level, gravity flow winery was built in 1996, and average production is now 4500 cases per year, 2/3 of which is Pinot Noir. Look for aromas of blue and black fruits complicated by spice box and herb garden. The dark fruit carries through to the palate, which is rich and ripe but also focused and balanced.
