Domaine Joseph Colin Saint Aubin La Chateniere 2017
Made from 45+ year old vines, on a very steep slope, with reddish clay and lots of limestone. Aged in barrel (25% new). Grower/winemaker Joseph Colin says, "I like to think of La Chatenière as edgy and racy with a sleek saline feel that is 'nervy' as the French like to say. This is a vineyard with angles and where a tiny layer of dirt hides the immense bedrock below. Like the site, the wine gives no shelter." It is a wine with no 'make-up', just a bracing and ruggedly handsome beauty that makes many of the wines in this village so irresistible.
Joseph Colin is one of the hottest young producers in Burgundy. The son of Marc Colin, and younger brother of Pierre-Yves Colin, Joseph, at the age of 19, Joseph began working full-time at Domaine Marc Colin in 1993. For the next ten years he worked alongside his father and older brother until Pierre-Yves left Marc Colin in 2003 to create his own domaine. In 2004 Joseph and his younger siblings, Damian and Caroline, took over Marc Colin. Then Joseph started his own domaine in 2017 with approximately 6 hectares of vines from the original Domaine Marc Colin.

Wine AdvocateThe 2017 Saint-Aubin 1er Cru La Chatenière exhibits aromas of lime and lemon zest, crushed rock and white flowers, followed by a bright and incisive medium to full body, with a nicely concentrated core of crunchy fruit and a long, penetrating finish. This is a very promising Chatenière.
