In 1895 Edmund Norton founded Bodega Norton and became an ambassador for quality Argentinian winemaking. Today, owned by the Swarovski family, the Norton estate is managed with a passion to honor the pioneering founder and the wines that still bear his name. Michael Swarovski studied at the University of Boston and lived all over the world before discovering his deep love for Argentina. For the past 24 years his home has been in Mendoza, right by Bodega Norton, after his father Gernot Swarovski invested in the winery and Michael became CEO. He describes Argentina as a ¨fountain of opportunities¨ and has dedicated himself to ensuring Norton becomes a byword for excellence. In 2003 his hard work was acknowledged when he was named Businessman of the Year in the Viti-viniculture Industry.
Bodega Norton has five vineyards spread over the main terroirs of the province of Mendoza, at the foothills of the Andes Mountains, all of them within a privileged zone known as the First Zone for the quality of its grapes. It is not just geographical location that influences the quality of Norton wines, but the age of the vines at the estate. Their average age is around 30 years, but there are also a large number of hectares planted of more than 80-years.
Sustainability and care for the environment are concepts that guide the winery. A decade ago, Bodega Norton committed to making great changes to better protect our environment. All processes are certified according to international standards to guarantee the highest quality of our wines. Norton was the first Argentinian winery to include their vineyards in those certifications in order to protect the one process held the dearest: to grow grapes and create wines. Norton's strong commitment to sustainability can be seen in their actions such as: reducing carbon emissions pioneering the development and use of ¨ecological bottles¨ to reduce the use of glass, conscious use of water, care for the ground where vines are planted, and energy conservation
Privada is a deep red blend with rich aromas of black berries and vanilla that was originally produced exclusively for the family's consumption with friends and family. Rich, smooth and elegant with a lingering finish given by the integration of the wine’s three varietals: Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Pair with rich flavors like braised meats, osso bucco, mushroom sauces, and sharp, nutty cheeses like Rembrandt aged Gouda.

There's better integration of the oak and better balance, harmony and elegance in the 2021 Privada Family Blend. It was produced with 40% Malbec and 30% each Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot from vineyards in Luján de Cuyo. It feels very integrated, with each variety adding aromas and flavors and coming through as complex and powerful. This has to be one of the finest vintages for this bottling. Maybe they used less new barrels.

Up-front notes of vanilla and cocoa bean fold into a well-contoured core of plum and berry flavors, which takes on additional layers of cassis and chocolate. Ends with polished tannins, showing nice length. Malbec, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. Drink now through 2034. 960 cases imported.
