Massolino Barbera d'Alba 2016
Made from Barbera grapes grown in Massolino's estate vineyards situated in Serralunga d’Alba at an altitude of 330 meters above sea level. The soil composition is mixed, tending towards limestone. The vines range from 10 to 45 years and all harvesting is all done by hand in the middle of October. The first year of production of this wine was 1896, when the winery was founded. The Massolino makes about 1600 cases of this wine each year.
Thanks to the meticulous selection process, excellent sun exposure and very low yields, very high quality grapes are obtained, giving very complex wines. This is a traditional Barbera with intriguing freshness, good body and a long finish. The bouquet is elegant, ripe and tempting, the intense and fruity notes typical of Barbera emerge. On the palate, the wine is vinous, fresh and well balanced. An easy-to-drink wine which is tasty and rich without being excessively heavy. Perfect with Langhe cuisine such as roasts and stews, game (with a preference for wild boar and hare), ravioli and white truffle dishes. Excellent with pasta, rice and soup, braised or grilled red meats and medium-mature cheeses. It is also perfect for aperitifs, with cheeses and cured meats.
