Cascina Castlet Litina Barbera d'Asti 2015
Made by a small, traditional estate in Piedmont, Mariuccia Borio is a Barbera specialist who hand picks all of her fruit and makes elegant classic wines of Asti. Litina Barbera d'Asti is made in memory of her aunt who, when it came to striking her marriage pact, had a vineyard added to her bottom drawer. Zia Litina knew nothing about stock market quotations, GDPs and spread, but she knew that those well-tended rows of vines would produce Barbera at every harvest.
For the Litina bottling, Barbera grapes are gathered from this sun-drenched hillside vineyard with its more than thirty-year-old vines. The grapes are picked by hand in the first fortnight of October. Carefully selected bunches are dispatched for vinification without delay. Ripe, round and full of flavor, serve this red with pasta first courses (tagliatelle, ravioli) seasoned with meat or game sauces, as well as with stewed and roast meat second courses. Also excellent with medium-ripe sheep's milk cheeses in particular, such as pecorino and aged Manchego.

Wine EnthusiastThis wine's violet and red-skinned berry aromas lift out of the glass. The palate is bright and racy, with juicy raspberry, red cherry and cake spice notes and lively acidity. Drink through 2020.
