Translated from French meaning 'In Paradise', or 'In Heaven', this wine is from Au Paradis vineyard, located in the heart of Oakville’s famous “red dirt”, purchased by the Peter Michael family in 2009. They spent two years improving this already exceptional property before making their first vintage. The wine is at least 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, with Cabernet Franc making up the remainder.  This wine, and the vineyard from which it is sourced, was inadvertently named by Paul and Emily’s youngest son who, during a family campout at age five, awoke to the iconic Northern California view of a blanket of fog spread beneath their mountaintop campsite.  “He woke us up and asked if we were in heaven. The view below was indeed so beautiful we almost didn’t mind that it was very, very early, especially because the perfect name for the newest vineyard had at last been found.”

Wine SpectatorThis is striking for its density, complexity, focus and range of flavors and textures, with initial scents of smoky oak running toward the seamless finish, offering notes of dark berry, cedar, crushed rock and fresh earth.

Wine AdvocateComposed of 76% Cabernet Sauvignon and 24% Cabernet Franc, the 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Au Paradis has a deep garnet-purple color and nose of crushed blackcurrants, blackberries and mulberries with hints of menthol, violets, bay leaves and cloves, plus a waft of pencil shavings. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is energetic and yet tautly structured with firm, grainy tannins and a lively backbone framing the muscular fruit, finishing long and earthy. Give it 2-3 years in bottle and drink it over the next 25+.
