The origins of Bolgheri Castle date back to 1200. Since then, it has been the property of the Counts of Gherardesca family. In the second half of the 1700s, restoration work and improvements were made to the building, and the cellars were built. In 1895, the castle’s facade was modified, with the construction of the tower and merlons as we still see them today. Bolgheri Castle and its surrounding lands were transferred by hereditary succession to the current family of the Counts Zileri Dal Verme.
The farm extends around the Castle for an area of 130 hectares, 50 of which are covered by vineyards; the rest is made up of areas cultivated with 6,000 olive plants, sown grounds and woods. Both sides of the farm are adjacent to the famous cypress road extolled in the poetry of Giosuè Carducci. Castello di Bolgheri Rosso is a selection from the best vineyards around the castle. The grapes undergo a very delicate treatment of pumping over and delestage, and remain in contact with the skins for a long period of time. The blend for the 2015 is composed of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Cabernet Franc and 15% Merlot. In this special rich vintage with extra soft tannins and glyceric mid palate the estate decided to increase the percentage of the Cabernet Sauvignon to focus more on classic spice notes and flavors.

The blackberry and blueberry aromas with fresh sage and bay-leaf character are impressive. Stone, graphite and mineral undertones. Full body and silky and refined tannins. Elegance and polish. Shows greatness in strength and refinement. A dialed-in, dialed-back Ornellaia. Drink in 20122.

Very tightly wound, with a dense bed of tannins providing support for the black currant, black cherry, wild herb, mineral and earth flavors. Ripe yet lively, showing fine intensity on the fruit-, mineral- and tar-filled aftertaste. Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot. Best from 2022 through 2040. 2,500 cases made.

Inviting aromas of black-skinned berry, underbrush and a whiff of ginger lead the nose on this savory blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot. The structured, juicy palate offers ripe black currant, licorice and black pepper alongside polished tannins. Enjoy through 2024.
