Cascina Roccalini Nebbiolo 2017
This is a beautiful declassified Barbaresco from the younger vines of a very small estate named Roccalini. Owner/winemaker Paolo Veglio is a first generation Barbaresco producer. Paolo believes in spending most of his energies in the vineyard. It’s crucial for him that the grapes arrive to the cellar as healthy as possible. This means not taking short cuts. His interest in farming and winemaking came from growing up watching tractors working the most iconic Barbaresco vineyards from his backyard. Paolo’s first car was a tractor, and he helped local farmers ploughing before he learned how to drive an automobile. He farms sustainably and organically in his tiny vineyard which we visited during a tour of Piedmont. Look for dense, juicy, multi-layered black cherry, blue plum, cassis, leather, earth and violet notes. Serve with steak tartare, grilled meats, hard aged cheeses, risotto and more...
