Rio Madre Graciano Rioja 2017
Made by a woman winemaker, Ana Escudero, this delicious red is so much pedigree and class at a VERY reasonable price. Made from vines farmed without the use of herbicides, fungicides, or pesticides, and all dry farmed, the family's vineyards are planted to Graciano, Garnacha, and Tempranillo, and the oldest vineyards are up to 90 years old. The grapes are destemmed and fermented in stainless steel tanks and concrete vats. Malolactic occurs both in stainless steel tanks and neutral French oak barriques.
The wine is aged in neutral French oak barriques and stainless steel tanks.
The soils are characterized by stony alluvial deposits of the Ebro River. The vineyards are planted at 550M above sea level on the foothills of the mountains in Rioja Baja. This delicious wine has a mouthful of rich plum, black currant and chocolate flavors, ripe and sweet. A lovely version of Rioja, made of 100% Graciano as opposed to Tempranillo.
