One of the most famous places in Bordeaux is SAINT ÉMILION where, at their best, the wines are rich, pure, balanced and silky. Dame de Gaffelière 2018 is a lovely example from a top estate at a very reasonable price. It is the special label of the highly regarded Château-La-Gaffelière, which retails a much higher pricepoint. Dame de Gaffelière is a 'wine for pleasure' with a 10 year potential of aging. The work in the younger plots of the estate is equal to the actions in the parcels for the first label : pruning, de-leafing, green harvest, hand-picking, etc... In the cellar, the same technical gestures are used in vinification. Aged in French oak barrels which have been used one or two years before (to make sure the wine is not too, too oaky), the wine stays in these barrels for 10-12 months. Serve with both red and white meat dishes, with grilled salmon, cheeses, pâté and cured meats.

This is the second wine of classed growth Château la Gaffelière. Dominated by Merlot, the wine has weight as well as a rich, velvety texture supporting the powerful black fruits. As befits a second wine, this should develop relatively quickly and generously. Drink from 2025.

This is wound up nicely with brambly, fresh red and dark berries, as well as light mocha and Middle Eastern spices. The palate has punchy flavors delivered in suave, fine tannins and attractive full body. Drink or hold.

The 2018 La Dame de Gaffelière has a very elegant and pure bouquet with red cherries, wild strawberry, rose petal and just a faint touch of liquorice. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins and well judged acidity. This feels harmonious and focused. Discrete mineral notes emerge towards the finish. This is a well-crafted and quite delicious Deuxième Vin. Recommended, especially for those unable to grab the marvelous Grand Vin.
